The Nationals’ candidate for Murray and NSW Education Minister travelled to the region to discuss local and state issues with voters ahead of the state election on Saturday.

About 25 people turned up to the Crown Hotel for the event, with questions on the future of Wentworth’s hospital, a 24-hour police station, aged care facilities, and the prospect of Wentworth Shire gaining mining royalties.

Among the questioners were Wentworth councillors and general manager Peter Kozlowski, who asked about development prospects for the shire.

He called on Mr Piccoli to address the “differential” planning and development laws and regulations on each side of the river, arguing Victoria’s laws encouraged growth while NSW’s didn’t.

“I want the candidates and the incumbent to understand those differentials and work with the Wentworth Shire Council to ensure that there’s a level playing field of taking up the significant opportunities in our shire,” he said.
