Adrian Warren, 24, now of Koroit, pleaded guilty in the Koori division of the Warrnambool Magistrates Court this week to assault and damage charges.

He previously had sentencing for driving matters, including unlicensed driving and drink-driving, adjourned to allow him to get treatment for alcohol and drug issues.

Yesterday Warren was placed on a 12-month CCO with conditions he do 50 hours of community work and undertake assessment and treatment for alcohol, drugs and programs to reduce reoffending.

For breaching previous CCOs he was convicted and fined $500. He also has to pay compensation of $1135 for the damage he caused at Western Region Alcohol and Drug (WRAD) centre.

About 3.15pm on July 21 Warren attended the WRAD centre in Merri Street with his then partner for drug screening.

He was agitated and argued with a woman who was smoking out the front of the centre.

Warren racially abused the woman and when they soon after bumped into each other pushed her to the ground and missed when he tried to punch her.

Warren slammed a door, damaging a wall, before smashing the glass front door.

Police were called and when arrested Warren called the woman derogatory names and said she was trying to be “cheeky”. He claimed the woman had threatened his partner and in the same circumstances he would do the same thing again.

Solicitor Katherine Rolfe said Warren’s behaviour was disturbing on a number of levels and at the time her client had been drinking heavily and taking ice.

Warren said he had no excuse for not doing even one hour of community work during his past three years on community corrections orders.
