According to Mildura police Inspector Simon Clemence, the resulting arrests and convictions have lead to a 21 per cent rise in drug offences in 2014, accounting for 7.2 per cent of crime in the region.

Crime Statistics Agency (CSA) data released last week shows drug offences rose from 349 in 2013 to 424 in 2014.

Drug dealing and trafficking offences rose by 20 per cent, while use and possession offences rose by 46 per cent.

Insp Clemence said the Project Ice campaign, a community-led partnership which includes Mildura police, had encouraged people to speak out and assist police in combating the drug scourge in the area.

“We are absolutely flat out demolishing drug networks, small and large, and mostly due to information from the public,” Insp Clemence said.
