TOP FIELD: Two of the biggest chances in the Gold Collar will be heat winners Queen Charlie (box two) and the Jason Mackay-trained Megan Keeping (box six).Maitland Greyhound Club sponsorship and promotions manager Fred Robertson reckons today’s Gold Collar final could be one the best seen at the track.

Quick opening sections, ranging from 5.22 to 5.35 seconds, from qualifiers in last week’s heats have Robertson excited about the $5000-to-the-winner decider at Maitland Showground.

“To be honest, I think this is one of the best Gold Collar finals we’ve had in a long while,” Robertson said.

“There are just so many speed dogs on show. There was only a split hair between them in last week’s sectionals.

“I reckon who ever gets a bit of luck in those first 50 or 60 metres will determine the winner.”

Two of the biggest chances in the non-graded event over 400 metres will be heat winners Queen Charlie (box two) and the Jason Mackay-trained Megan Keeping (box six).

Both were impressive at Maitland on Thursday and both have won three of their last four starts.

They have also gone under 22.30 seconds over the distance at Maitland previously, with No.1 Zulu Mystique the only other runner in the final to achieve that feat.

Hardaway Grand once stopped the clock at 22s flat. but has been scratched from today’s decider with first reserve Anita May the replacement for box five in the number nine rug.

Senor Laurie (box four) and Pure Arrogance (box seven) were the other winners from last week’s preliminaries.

Blue Cherokee (box three), and Miss Migaro (box eight) round out the field.

The Gold Collar final jumps at 6.04pm.

The 10-race meeting kick starts with a pair of maidens and also includes a masters event and the Maitland Mercury mixed final over 565m.

Robertson’s best bet of the day is King Sapphire (race three, number one).

    Program starts at 3.42pm.

In other greyhound news Mackay will have two runners from his Richmond Vale kennels vying for a spot in the Golden Easter Egg decider with Zipping Midge and Frost Yourself contesting the non-graded 520m semi-finals at Wentworth park on Saturday night.

    Racing from 7.28pm.
