    Tom Murphy is one of 23 islanders growing edible plants for the FEASTival Hot House event in Kingscote Wharf Shed on May 3.

    Thaw out on May 3 at the HOTHOUSE, an all-day family event inthe Kingscote Wharf Shed producedfor Kangaroo Island’s FEASTival bythe Kangaroo Island Food and WineAssociation.

    This inexpensive day out willshowcase the best that Kangaroo Islandhas to offer in food, wine, musicand entertainment, plus kids’ activities.

    The wharf shed will become a vibrant,living hot house with a displayof hundreds of edible, pottedplants, seeded and grown by 23 volunteers.

    Stephanie Alexander’s famousAustralia-wide ‘Kitchen Garden’ programwill be brought to life on themain stage as she guides school children,from each KICE campus, tocreate a three course meal.

    Ms Alexander is an Aussie chefwith a mission to educate childrenabout the nutritional value and funof growing food to eat.

    And if you’ve ever wanted to askisland growers how they’ve madetheir reputation around the globe,you can tune in to some revealinglive interviews with producers andfoodies.

    Food demonstrations will be afeature of the day, with Dan Pattingaleshowing that he does give a figabout fabulous food ideas, and localchef Tony Nolan will transform Danand Jas Florance’s free-range porkinto sensational snags.

    KI Spirits distiller, Jon Lark willteam up with Ken Rowe of KI Shellfishto demonstrate the magic of infusingoysters with alcohol, whileJustin Harman, general manager ofIsland Pure, will make sheep’s milkinto delicious labne. Plus, IslandPure’s new honey beer label will bethere for the tasting.

    Inside the shed, food stalls willcreate aromas you won’t be able toresist, while outside, 15 KI FarmersMarket stalls will be selling theirbounty alongside pop-up food vansyou haven’t seen before.

    Every farm has a ‘Thunder Box’’and the HOT HOUSE will have itsown naughty version. Step inside toreveal the things you love mostabout Kangaroo Island and go into adraw to win an authentic KI experienceworth $1000.

    Three fabulous prizes will be raffledincluding two nights (all inclusive)at Southern Ocean Lodge, acooking class with Kate Sumner,SeaLink fares and a KI wine package.
