There is, I believe, only one way now to get the attention of the Premier and, perhaps, cause him to rethink his decision to close the rail line at Hamilton.

The huge majority of Maitland citizens want to keep the rail line into Newcastle. To try to save the line, they should all put the Liberal party candidate last on their ballot paper after using all their preference votes.

If the Liberal candidate is comprehensively, overwhelmingly defeated, the Premier surely would have to notice.

If the elected government then wants to change to light rail, it should ask the people of the Lower Hunter to indicate their preference.

If light rail be chosen, it should travel on the existing line.

The conduct of the government in this saga has led to all kinds of suspicions about the government’s true motives.

And it is a fact that the developers are still sitting in the wings.

Of course, there are many other policies of the parties to be considered but if you want to save the rail line and not have to put up with a bus service that has already been shown to be wanting please think carefully about the above suggestion.
